Plantar Fasciitis?

So, I'm definitely not at a full blown level. But, I've had a tight heel for about a week and a half. And, taking a rest day yesterday didn't make it better. In fact, my heel is tighter today than it was yesterday. Everything I've read about PF sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. I'm just not at a point where it is terribly painful, just tight. So, that definitely means I'm taking a little hiatus from running. I'm hoping that will nip it in the bud. But, PF does not sound like very much fun at all. Anyone else had PF before? What has your experience been?

I've also decided that the weight loss plan will continue despite the fact that I'm not going to have the ability to run in the next couple weeks. I'll just have to be smarter about what I eat.

Wow, that sucks! I have never had it but it seems pretty common.

Oh well, I suppose we can take up wheelchair racing since neither of us can run.

Looks like I might need orthotics too. I would guess this has something to do with my flat feet.

I would definitely visit the doctor for a formal dx and to see if you should have orthotics.

Yikes, take it easy. Have you seen a doctor for this yet? Hope you feel better soon!

Are you going to take a break from working out or do you think you'll cross-train with other activities that aren't so strenuous on your heel? Do you have access to a swimming pool?

One of the triathalon guys that I work with is recovering from PF. He basically took about 2 months off from running, slept with a special sock device that takes off pressure, and did exercises. I think individual recovery times vary greatly depending on the extent of the problem.

I second Nathan's opinion about seeing a doc. While the general symptoms sound like PF, it would be good to rule out other problems and make sure you are going down the most efficient path to recovery.

Hey all... The appointment at the dr's is made (next Thursday).

Corey... No access to a pool. But, I bike and do the elliptical. Not sure the elliptical will be ok for this. We'll see.

Bill... Thanks for the info on PF. No matter what it is, it's still in the early stages. So, I hope I can catch it before it gets too bad.

yuck... PF is not a fun beast. I would second everyone else recommendations and also add that you should look at ALL the different shoes you wear, especially work shoes. After my PF wasn't healing I began looking at my dress shoes for work and the heels had become very worn down, so I replaced the shoes and that seemed to speed the recovery and help avoid re-injury.

crossn81, that is the sort of thing that I always wonder about. If something other than the running is keeping the injury from healing. That is very interesting that you figured that out. Good for you!

Hmmmm.... That's interesting. I hadn't thought about things outside of running. I have started wearing some shoes that I hadn't been for a while. Maybe that's not helping? I guess it's running shoes 24/7 now. Nice.
