Ice chips keep falling on my head...

I had to fight it today... and I'm not quite sure why. No, I'm not talking about my run. I'm talking about running outside. It was icy and cold and I didn't want to do it. I had the easy option of going to the Y and running on the treadmill. That was nearly enough to make it happen. Who knew, I guess I'm just a sissy at heart. But, because I just enjoy running outside and it is better for my training, I fought my sissy urges and ran outside. Not to mention, I can't imagine running 7 miles on a treadmill.

So, I set out for my 7 mile run in shorts and a sweatshirt (with gloves and hat). It wasn't nearly as cold as I thought and it actually started to warm up as the run went on. Hence the title of the post... There are a lot of overhanging trees on the run I went on. And, as pretty as it was to see all of the ice hanging from them, it was also a big pain. The entire run was spent dodging drops of ice and water (at really wooded sections, it was as if it was raining).

But, all of this dodging and diversion must have made for a good run. I never really check my watch at all. I usually just run as fast as I feel comfortable that day. Today was no different. I knew I wasn't running slow. But, I had no idea how fast I was actually running. I got finished with my 7.02 miles in a stunning (for me) 1:02:39. That is sub 9 minute miles and I wasn't even trying to run fast. Hmmm.... I think these 5 run weeks are treating me pretty well. This week I got 5 in before Saturday and a total of 23 miles. Awesome!!

Run recap- 7.02 miles, 1:02:39, 8:55 pace

Great job! You get extra gold stars for running in weather like that! ;-)

It's all about bundling up properly & just getting out the door, eh? Once that happens, that little tiny spark that gets you out the door can often turn into a big rolling snowball of motivation. ;-) Even when it's cold & icky outside, it can still be sunny on the inside, if you know what I mean.

Thanks... Gold stars huh? You should have seen some of the crap that I ran in last January. It was crazy. Anyhow, today wasn't actually that bad. I just thought it was going to be.

By the way, I really enjoy your blog. You do a really nice job of thinking things out.
